Amazigh Enslavement (en)
This project investigates the enslavement of Amazigh individuals in the Canary Islands before, during, and after the Castilian conquest of the islands. When and how were they captured, where were they forcibly taken, and in which cities can we find sales of slaves of this origin? What social position could they have had among the enslaved people, what was their value, and for what reasons? Was this common to all cities on the peninsula, or were there differences between cities and kingdoms? Finally, it includes information about obtaining freedom and the legal processes that led to the liberation of the Canarians and whether or not this was effective, where, when and to what extent.
